Reflexology – What is it?

Reflexology is a powerful complementary therapy that helps your body to fight the effects of stress. It is a holistic approach to healing and has been used for thousands of years to improve health and wellbeing.

In reflexology, the body is mapped out onto reflex points on your feet, hands or face. It is a massage using specific techniques and applying firm pressure onto these reflex points. We work on your whole body through these points to help you to feel healthier and more relaxed.

Reflexology complements, but is not a substitute for medical care and we never diagnose. We will always work alongside your medical practitioner if you are seeking it to help reduce the effects of a particular condition.

It can help you to reduce the effects of stress by:

• Helping you to relax
• Boosting your circulation
• Soothing your nervous system
• Improving your sleep patterns
• Helping you to feel calmer and more in control
• Improving your whole sense of wellbeing and making you feel more energised

The best way to understand what reflexology can do for you is to give it a go and experience the results.

You need to remove your shoes and socks. It’s a good idea to wear loose comfortable clothing so that you do not feel constricted in any way during the session.

It’s important that you feel warm and cosy so we wrap your feet in towels and cover you with a blanket if you are feeling chilly.

We start by relaxing your foot and applying a light cream so we can work through all your reflex points smoothly.

If you feel any tenderness in a particular part of your foot, please let us know as it indicates that the reflex needs some additional work to soothe it and restore balance.

You lie back and relax, letting your body do its healing. You may even drift off to sleep – it can be that relaxing.
