Treatments for you

Reflexology

Reflexology is a powerful therapy that helps your body to fight the effects of stress.

In reflexology, your body systems are mapped onto reflex points on your feet, hands or face. It is a massage that uses specific techniques and applies firm pressure onto these points. Reflexology works on all your body systems helping to bring them back into balance. It helps your body to heal itself. One of the first things that you are likely to notice is that you sleep better after a treatment.

It can help you to reduce the effects of stress by:

  • Helping you to relax
  • Boosting your circulation
  • Soothing your nervous system
  • Improving sleep patterns
  • Helping you to feel calmer and more in control
  • Improving your whole sense of wellbeing and making you feel more energised

Treatments available: Foot, face, hand and hot stone reflexology.

Holistic massage

Holistic massage is a massage that takes your physical and emotional needs and stresses into account to deliver a massage that is tailored to your specific needs. We take into account any big life events that could be affecting your wellbeing and may have contributed to any pain or ailments that you are experiencing. It is a nurturing therapy. It can be used for sheer relaxation or can help to increase your flexibility or reduce pain. It can help many conditions including, carpel tunnel syndrome, frozen shoulder, migraines, sciatica and muscle pain.

It has many benefits including:

  • It increases blood circulation which promotes healing and can reduce the effect of nerve neuropathy.
  • It slows down the nervous system, boosting relaxation, lowering heartrate and encouraging longer slower breathing, as well as improving digestion.
  • It boosts your immune system by stimulating lymph flow to remove waste products from the body and stimulate white cell production.
  • It reduces feeling of stress by releasing endorphins and improving your sense of wellbeing.

Pregnancy massage

Pregnancy massage is a safe and relaxing therapy that helps to alleviate many of the niggling issues that can crop up as your body adjusts to the demands of your developing foetus. It can help to relieve problems such as backache, pelvic strains, heavy or tired legs and oedema. It can also help you emotionally; relaxing your nervous system, reducing anxiety and enhancing your mood. It can lead to a better quality of sleep.

Your treatment will be tailored to your needs and your stage of pregnancy. It will be carried out with you reclining on your side, and with your body supported so that you can relax and unwind.

Myofascial release

Myofascial release is a therapy that releases the interconnective tissue (fascia) surrounding all muscles, joints and organs in your body.

So why do you need to release this fascia? Well imagine the fascia as being a corset that covers your entire body and gives it structure. It is made of a strong web-like material. It is fluid and allows your body to flex and stretch.

Over time the fascia can tighten as a result of injury or trauma (both physical and emotional issues affect the fascia). In fact, research has been done which shows that a rapid contraction of the fascia, gives us strength and is what allows us to do extraordinary things in emergencies (eg a mother rescuing her child from under a car).

You can feel your own fascia right now if you gently bend your head to the side. You should feel a pulling sensation on the opposite side of your neck, from your shoulder to your jaw. This is the fascia stretching.

Myofascial release is a safe and effective body therapy that can be used alone or as part of your holistic massage. It is very effective at increasing flexibility and eliminating pain both acute and chronic.

You are likely to find that you will move better, recover faster and have less pain following a course of therapy.

Somatic Trauma Therapy

Somatic Trauma Therapy is a holistic therapy that can relieve symptoms of anxiety, depression or trauma in your body that you may feel are holding you back in life.

It focuses on the relationship between your mind and your body, and how what’s happening in your mind can affect your body.

It works by calming the fight or flight stress response in our bodies which is triggered when we feel we are under threat. The stress response is a primitive unconscious reaction which aims to get us out of danger. This is useful when it is a one-off incident because our bodies automatically rebalance to calm us down afterwards. It becomes a problem when this stress response stays on. So the issue does not go away, or you have been traumatised by an event. Your nervous system stays on alert because your body thinks it is under threat. Somatic Trauma Therapy works to turn the dial down on the stress response allowing your nervous system to calm down and rebalance.

It is helpful for people with stress, depression, grief, addiction and issues relating to trauma and abuse.

You do not need to talk about the issues if you do not want to. It is primarily about noticing the sensations you are feeling within your body and using them to relax your nervous system.

Your reflexology session is a relaxing experience. Don’t worry if you have tickly feet – it doesn’t tickle.

For foot reflexology

A full session will last an hour, or you can opt for a shorter half hour taster session to see if you like it. The first full session lasts and hour and 20 minutes to allow us to assess your wellbeing and medical history.

We will explain what is going to happen and how reflexology works.

You need to remove your shoes and socks. It’s a good idea to wear loose comfortable clothing so that you do not feel constricted in any way during the session.

It’s important that you feel warm and cosy so we wrap your feet in towels and cover you with a blanket if you are feeling chilly.

We start by relaxing your foot and applying a light cream so we can work through all your reflex points smoothly.

If you feel any tenderness in a particular part of your foot, please let us know as it indicates that the reflex needs some additional work to soothe it and restore balance.

You lie back and relax, letting your body do its healing. You may even drift off to sleep – it can be that relaxing.

As the treatment progresses you will notice your breathing deepening and slowing as you relax and empty your mind.
Your session will start with a free consultation where the therapist will find out what you are looking for from the therapy and discuss your general health and wellbeing with you. As your therapy is tailored to your personal needs on that day, your therapist will also agree with you what that session will involve.
It is usual to undress for your massage, although this is not always necessary, and your therapist will work within your comfort levels. Your therapist will leave the room to give you privacy while you undress. Be assured that you will be adequately draped at all times with only the areas that are being worked on exposed, so you can be confident that you will feel comfortable throughout the treatment.
